The Metropolitan Museum's "Flight into Egypt" Exhibit Features Mtume Album Artwork

The exhibit runs through February 17th, 2025

Flight into Egypt: Black Artists and Ancient Egypt, 1876–Now examines how Black artists and other cultural figures have engaged with ancient Egypt through visual art, sculpture, literature, music, scholarship, religion, politics, and performance.

The Mtume Umoja Ensemble album, the legendary Alkebu-Lan - Land Of The Blacks (Live At The East), from 1971, was celebrated as an iconic moment in Afrocentric and free jazz.

Bronx, New York born visual artist Wabembe developed the original Alkebu-Lan cover artwork and it is featured as part of the Flight into Egypt: Black Artists and Ancient Egypt, 1876–Now exhibit at New York City's The Metropolitan Museum.
